Yo Gabba Gabba Live – A “Must See”

If you are a mom to a toddler, then you know all about Yo Gabba Gabba.  Love it or hate it, it’s hard to escape their catchy songs. We are huge fans of the show. I’m not even ashamed to admit that I’ve got 36 episodes saved on my DVR.  Maggie loves dancing and laughing along with each episode and her cousins are huge fans too. My sister and I were so excited when the Yo Gabba Gabba Live tour was announced last April and even more ecstatic to learn they were coming to our city!  This morning, it was finally our day to see DJ Lance and friends.

It was touch and go for Maggie throughout the first half of the show. Her television friends were suddenly in the same room with her and combined with the lights and music, I guess she reached sensory overload. The first few songs she was permanently attached to my lap.  After awhile though, she started coming around and seemed really interested in the show.  We danced and I sang along to the songs (it’s tough not to sing along).

I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, but it was a very interactive show.  There were confetti cannons, bubble machines, and even balloons that rained down from the ceiling. DJ Lance acknowledged the kids in the crowd, waving and saying hello…and it was really fun to watch kids when their tv friends came walking down the aisles! I loved that they handed out paper DJ Lance glasses to wear during the show and I really loved that I didn’t see many kids wearing them, but I saw tons of adults sporting the shades! I even saw two dads dressed in DJ Lance costumes and one mom dressed up as Super Martian Robot Girl.  (Sorry, wasn’t fast enough with my camera.)

I think the biggest hit of the show for the parents was Biz Markie… yes, that Biz Markie. He’s part of the show with Biz’s Beat of The Day! It was so neat to see him sit on the side of the stage and beatbox with kids   At one point, I even heard a mom yell out, “I love you Biz!”

If this show is coming to your city – put it on your “do not miss” list.  I’m not sure who ended up having more fun today – the kids or the parents!  By the end of the show, Maggie was blowing kisses to DJ Lance as he sang the goodbye song.  And…of course, in true two-year old fashion, she had a meltdown, but at least she waited until after the show!

**I purchased tickets to Yo Gabba Gabba Live.  The thoughts posted here are my own and not influenced by others.**

I am one of those that isn't a fan of Yo Gabba Gabba, but after reading this, I"m considering a second chance 😉 Very well written and I'm glad you stated at the end that you purchased your tickets so you weren't swayed in your answer.

I lurve me some YGG, and we are taking our daughter to see the show today. She's probably way too young (she's 16 mos.) but YGG is the ONLY show she watches with any interest, and has since she was a baby. If nothing else, we figure we (mom & dad) will have a blast. YAY BIZ MARKIE! OH BABY YOU! YOU GOT WHAT I NEEEEEED!
