When Do You Take Down Your Christmas Tree and Holiday Decorations?

by Carrie with Children with 13 comments

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was ready to take my Christmas tree down the instant my relatives left my house on Christmas Day. However, the procrastinator in me has allowed it to stay a little longer. I promise I’m not a Scrooge, I’m just ready to get back into our everyday routine and get rid of all the clutter that comes along with the holidays.  Is that so wrong?

My Christmas tree’s hours are numbered….  I think tonight it will go back to hibernating in the attic until next December. Now, all I need to do is convince my husband to put it back in the attic!

When do you typically pack up all the holiday decor and get back in the groove of a routine?  Isn’t there an old wives tale that says you have to leave your tree up until the new year?!  If so, I’m doomed for having a bad 2011.

girl, my tree went out yesterday! i was ready to pitch it out the door on christmas day once the last present was unwrapped, but i waited until yesterday. my living room feels bigger & less cluttered already. the only decoration left up now is the gingerbread village we put together & i think it's about to go out for the birds tomorrow.
i'll take old wives tail on! go ahead, carrie, take it down! =)

I usually leave it up until the day after New Year's but I think I am going to take it down over the next couple of days. I am ready to de-clutter, as well, and move on into 2011.

We celebrated yesterday so my tree is up today. It will go up sometime this week because I'm off work and eventually I'll get off my tush and clean the house. The other decorations will probably stay up because they are more "winter" theme tha Christmas. Except the Sata… I just love him..he's my man.

Love the photo – we have that gate too – we use to call it the baby jail 😉

Usually I take it down sometime around New Years, but this year I'm with you and I'm ready for this thing to go now. I think it's coming down tonight. I can't put all the crap everyone got away until all the rest of the Christmas crap is gone!

There is a part of me that wants to keep it up until January 5, the end of the Christmas season. Another part of me wants to keep it up until New Year's. This year, it's going down TONIGHT. However, my husband will be putting another up in its place–we've decided that our sinuses can no longer handle a real tree and my husband just went out to get a deal on an artificial one and wants to "try it out" before next year.

Yay! I'm so glad I'm not alone in wanting to get rid of my tree and the clutter!

I am just the opposite. Last year, I woke up before New Year's and my husband took it down. He was tired of it. I like to keep it up until New Years. I'd keep it longer if I could 🙂

Your tree is beautiful, though. Happy New Year!

I started to pack up decorations today. Will have everything but the tree down by Thursday and the tree will probably go on Sat. My hubby is working this week and we have a huge artificial so he needs to be home to take it apart.

We usually keep ours up until after New Year's, usually until the 6th (Epiphany/three Kings Day).

This year, however, I think it will be coming down right after the 1st. My mom is coming into town tomorrow, so we still have one more Christmas to celebrate and need the tree up. Then, I know I'll get caught up in New Year's stuff and it won't get done beforehand, lol. I don't know why, but the clutter is driving me nuts this year and I want to organize the house from top to bottom.

How long has ur tree been up. If u start to decorate in November around Thanksgiving I can c taking it down early like day after Christmas. I may decorate on Dec 1st this year for a change
Start holiday music & everything. My nativity is my favorite item to display. Also enjoy evergreen & ribbon over large doorways with white lites or pink, green & white look really pretty.
