Target’s Back to School Ad and Down Syndrome

by Carrie with Children with 21 comments

Imagine my excitement yesterday when the great folks at the Global Down Syndrome Foundation alerted me that Target featured a precious little girl with Down syndrome in their latest Back to School advertisement!   Isn’t she a cutie?!

Thank you Target for stepping up and recognizing that all children are equal.  I think it’s important for children with Down Syndrome (and all special needs for that matter) to be seen as a typical child.

I wish more corporations would consider featuring special needs children in their publications.  By doing this, they are helping break stereotypes and most importantly, it allows children with special needs to see that they can succeed and they are not alone in this world. I hope this is the beginning of a really great trend in advertising.

Besides…kids with Down Syndrome have to go back to school too, ya know!

I just wanted to add a couple months ago Pampers did the same thing!! It made me so happy. And there was a little article about how amazing it is to have her daughter with down syndrome. I wish I could find it.

That’s much better than when they forced a woman working there out shortly after she had a child with DS…..for no other good reason. Oh and they let her boss harass her for several months first…but then, the lawyers would prefer we not speak about that……
