I’m excited that tonight we are going out for my belated birthday dinner! When my husband asked me where I wanted to celebrate – it was an easy decision, I wanted to go to Bistro Aix. We’ve been fans of this locally-owned business for years. The restaurant provides a great atmosphere, along with a fantastic menu that changes seasonally with many of the items coming from local farms! There are so many great things on the menu – it’s tough to choose a favorite. I love their French onion soup and the homemade potato chips drizzled in blue cheese are amazing too. I think tonight I’m going with the Eden Farms Berkshire Pork Loin with sweet corn, leeks and charred tomatoes. Delicious! They have a great wine list too!
Speaking of local businesses, did you know that today is also Small Business Saturday? With all the shopping excitement taking place this weekend, American Express created this national campaign to remind consumers of the large impact local businesses have on a community and to ask shoppers to support these merchants.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses –
- Represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms.
- Employ half of all private sector employees.
- Pay 45 percent of total U.S. private payroll.
- Have generated 60 to 80 percent of net new jobs annually over the last decade.
- For every $100 spent in locally-owned, independent stores, $68 returns to the community.
Join the movement and shop local stores and merchants today. It’s a fantastic way to give back to your community!
What’s your favorite small business? Tell me about it!
**I received no compensation for this post. The thoughts here are my own and not influenced by others. I’m simply spreading the cheer of Small Business Saturday in hopes that you’ll participate in supporting the cause….and I wanted you to know about my favorite birthday dinner spot!**
