I’m currently following along (via the Internet) on the journey of a courageous woman who is going through a life-altering medical situation. While I don’t even know her personally, we have many mutual friends and I’ve taken to following along with Facebook updates and her CarePages site. Tonight, her mother posted an update and ended with a statement that literally brought tears to my eyes.
“One of the most important contributions to having a wonderful life is to know how to joyfully live Plan B.”
Such a powerful statement from a family going through an unbelievable battle. I know it might not be “proper” but I feel such a connection to this quote. We all have our own vision of how we expect our lives to go and sometimes you have no choice but to follow the curve. The path I’m on as a special needs mom is not one that I planned, yet I’m embracing it. I’m joyfully living my Plan B…and enjoy shouting from the rooftops how much I love my precious Molly (and silly Maggie too!) It’s been an extremely rewarding journey and while there are many unknowns, I’m excited about what the future holds for our family.
Just as the young woman facing a very sharp curve in life has decided to accept her path – I’m also choosing to embrace my Plan B. Have you been given a “Plan B” in your life? How have you chosen to accept it?
Ps. I promised I wouldn’t write a post about it today…but I couldn’t help but share this funny picture. Happy Valentine’s Day!

I love this post Carrie. It’s so true, life throws us all kinds of curve balls and we have to find joy in what are given. You are such an awesome example of it. xoxo

Fabulous post! The life we planned for may not always be the life we were meant for, but the one were meant for is the most rewarding if we live it to the fullest!

Shanna – I am still in shock that we are practically neighbors! It’s also neat that we also have a connection of living our plan B’s too. Can’t wait to meet you!

This is such a good point. Yes, we are not only joyfully living Plan B, but Plan C as well. I never expected to be a mom, let alone the mom of 2 special needs kids. Some people ask how I do it, but honestly, I don’t know any different. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks Amanda. Things are a little more difficult sometimes, but I agree with you….I wouldn’t have it any other way! Us, special needs moms gotta stick together! <3

What an adorable little girl you have! Thanks so much for the uplifting words. Our plan A might not be what the Lord wills. I will joyfully live in plan B. Have a terrific weekend!

Wow, this statement really struck a chord with me, too. Right now I am struggling with pre-diabetes and I think I was trying to make the best of it, but not JOYFULLY living my plan B. What an insightful post. Thank you so much. You have given me something to think about, and two new people to admire. And that is a really good way to start the day 😉
