Did you know that more than 1.4 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year? Without a cure, one person will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the United States.
My sister, Amy is doing something amazing this year to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and community-based breast health and education programs. She’s walking 60 miles in three days in the 2011 Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® in Tampa, Florida October 28-30, 2011. Nope…that’s not a typo.. 60 miles in three days.
Amy and her friends have formed a team called the “Angry Housewives Walking for Boobies” and have already started the vigorous training schedule! I’m dedicating a blog post on the 3rd day of each month to show my support for Amy and this event. I’m excited to follow along with her on this journey and to share it with you! Stay tuned for fun stories about Amy’s training adventures, preparation for the big event and how you can get involved in the walk right from your computer!

About the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure
The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer. Komen 3-Day for the Cure participants raise a minimum of $2,300 and walk an average of 20 miles a day for three consecutive days, educating tens of thousands of people about breast health with every step. Funds raised impact breast cancer research and community-based breast health and education programs. The national series sponsors for the 3-Day for the Cure are AT&T, Bank of America and New Balance. I lost my sister to breast cancer at age 46. I fought breast cancer myself for 2 years, and beat it! As a survivor, I want to tell you that those of you who walk in the 3-day are heroes! Thank you.
