Not So Wordless Wednesday – Friendship Park and Fountain

by Carrie with Children with 2 comments

This past weekend, the city park where we got married in Downtown Jacksonville had it’s re-grand opening celebration.  It’s been closed to the public for almost a year, undergoing major renovations.  It was a beautiful day to be outside and the new Friendship Park and Fountain looks fantastic!

The park originally opened in 1965 and at one time it was the world’s largest and tallest fountain!  The center of the fountain can now reach heights between 110 and 120 feet in the air!  So amazing!  It’s a fantastic place to soak up some sunshine and I’m excited about future picnics there too!  There’s always a great breeze at the park since it’s on the riverfront.

At night, the fountain and lights are synchronized with music for a patriotic-themed show.  I’m excited to visit and enjoy it!   If it’s this beautiful in the daytime, I can’t imagine how beautiful it must be at night!  Perfect place for an inexpensive date night!

Check out my friends over at JaxFountain.com, the unofficial site for all things Friendship Fountain.  There are some great pictures and videos, along with an in-depth look at the fountain too!

What unique city parks do you have in your city?  Is there somewhere that is a local landmark that you love?

Thanks, Vivian! It’s probably my favorite place in the whole city! 🙂
