Travel Tuesday: My Favorite Places in Nashville

I love Nashville, Tennessee.   I wanted to move there after college and get a fresh start at the “real world”. Okay, so I kinda hoped I would meet a cute country singer too.   Regardless, I didn’t make it there, yet it’s still one of my favorite places to visit – especially because I’m a huge country music fan.

I’m excited to go to Nashville at the end of the week for the 2012 Blissdom Conference, thanks to my sponsor Sea Best Seafood.  The conference is at the Gaylord Opryland Resort.  I stayed at the resort numerous times as a kid, so I”m especially excited to go back and experience it now.  I’m sure my time there this weekend will bring back a lot of great memories.

My favorite place to eat in Nashville may come as a surprise to you.  It’s called Arnold’s – a small, little dive commonly known to us Southerners as a “meat and three” place.  It’s in The Gulch area of Nashville, not too far from Downtown.

It’s home to probably the best Southern food I’ve ever had. When I was there, I had chicken and dumplins, mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese.  We found this great place, thanks to the Food Network show, Diner’s, Drive-In’s and Dives with Guy Fieri.

Of course, the country music lover in me also loves everything about the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium.   The history inside each of these buildings is phenomenal.  I could spend days at the Hall of Fame soaking up all the fantastic exhibits.  I always love spending time in the rotunda admiring the plaques honoring the members of the Hall of Fame. The Ryman Auditorium offers tours throughout the day and while I never seen a show there (yet), the tour tells a lot of inside stories of the history.

I’ve got a little bit of free time on Thursday before the conference starts, so I’m really hoping to make it Downtown to some of my favorite places.  And if I’m really lucky, I may be able to squeeze in a trip to the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night!  I’ll keep you posted!

Have you ever been to Nashville?  What are some of your favorite places?
