Travel Tuesday: Beautiful Naples, Florida

by Carrie with Children with 8 comments

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Tuesday Travelers series! This week, my friend Holly from Holly’s House:  Not A Perfect Mom’s Blog tells us all about Naples, Florida!

Would you believe that I’m a native Floridian and I’ve never been to Naples!  It looks absolutely beautiful – maybe I’ll get there soon!

Be sure and stop by Holly’s House to check out her cute daughter Brooke, she has an extra chromosome too – just like my Molly! (psst…wanna be a featured traveler? Here’s the scoop!)

I sometimes forget what an awesome city I live in…

I forget that the beach is only 15 minutes away…

I forget that I live in a place where there are palm trees and coast as far as the eye can see…

I forget that I live in what some people would consider paradise…

I live in the gorgeous city of Naples, which is in southwest Florida…

I know…how lucky am I? My city is considered by some to be a vacation destination…

Is the beach not your thing though? Is the idea of scrubbing sand out of bathing suits and butts not your idea of a fun time? Yeah, I know, the beach is a lot of work…which is why I was so excited when Naples recently opened it’s very own children’s museum!

The Children’s Museum of Naples is so cool! In the last month I’ve taken my kids there four times…and they would go every day if I let them…

The museum has a farm where you go can pick your produce, then right next door is the grocery store where the kids can shop for everything then check themselves out! There’s also a beach they fish at, an art studio, and an Everglades exhibit. The part that my kids love the most though is the four seasons room, where they can actually play in an igloo with an ice wall and play in falling leaves! We don’t have any of that down here in sunny Florida sadly…

And there’s even more there than what I stated, but to list it all would make your eyes glaze over…ha!

Not only do we have a museum, but we also have an pretty awesome zoo! My kids love to see the animals, and are pretty excited over the recent addition of the giraffes…

Of course they beg me to feed them every single time we go now, but the giraffes are so stinking cute how can I resist?

And who doesn’t want to learn more about the sloth? I know I was very interested to know it takes that animal two months to digest a meal!

Although my kids were much more interested in the more ferocious breed of animal!

Blurry, I know, but those ocelots move way to quickly to get a good shot! But can’t you see how gorgeous they are?

Doesn’t the zoo look awesome?! There’s way more animals, but if you want to see them you’ll have to make the trek down here…

Who’s ready for a trip to Naples?

When I was little, we used to go to Bonita Springs with my grandparents every year. For a month. I remember vividly the day my principal caught my Mom in the hall and said, “She’s not going to miss an entire month of school AGAIN this year, is she?”

And Mom said, “She has better grades than all your other students combined.”

But she still wouldn’t keep me out again that long. Sigh.

These days, we go to Naples on vacation. And oh dear GOD I WANT TO LIVE THERE. I’ll take the sandy butt. I want to go back to Bonita Bay. I’ve been to your zoo (and I concur – it’s great). I’ve walked down the pier. I have a good idea of where you were standing when you took that top photo. Yearning. Oh yearning.

My husband hates the beach. Figures. Also, he grumbles that there are no restaurants with kid playplaces. Total fuddy-duddy.
