How Did You Decide On Your Child’s Name?

Naming a baby isn’t an easy task – in fact, I found it to be pretty stressful! So much responsibility and decision making involved, it’s a job I took seriously! When I found out I was pregnant with our first child, I went to sleep each night reading a baby names book. I even went so far as to use a highlighter! We had plenty of girl names we liked, but when it came to boy names – we were stuck! At one point, my husband jokingly decided to open the book and use the first boy name he saw. (It was Radford, by the way… thank goodness we had girls!)

When it came to girl names, I really wanted it to be a strong Irish name. I have a love for all things Irish and together, my husband and I narrowed down the list of our favorite Irish girl names – Maggie, Molly and Annie. So, in the end – we ended up with Maggie and Molly. Maggie’s middle name is Leigh, “Lee” is my husband’s middle name, so we just changed the spelling. Molly’s middle name is Elizabeth, a name that has been passed down for generations in my family.

The funny part, that I only learned of a few years ago….. Maggie and Molly are also the two most popular female dog names. How funny is that?! Regardless, I’m so proud of the names that we chose for our girls. I hope they are proud of them too!

How did you decide on your baby’s name? Or do you have a great story on how your parents decided on your name?
