Yesterday, I told you that my husband and I took a mini-staycation over the weekend.  Thanks to a one-night stay gift certificate, we ventured to the Omni Hotels & Resorts Amelia Island Plantation.  Located about an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida this oceanfront resort is the perfect getaway!

With 249 oceanfront rooms, we had plenty of room to relax.  The private balcony was where we chose to end our evening – listening to the waves of the ocean.  Peaceful and calming.  The room also had a mini-bar refrigerator, spacious bathroom and the wi-fi was super speedy. (Yes, I know I was supposed to be on vacation, but I can’t live without my laptop!)

The resort overlooks 3.5 miles of beach – complete with complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas.  I found myself spending the afternoon on the beach and it couldn’t have been more relaxing.  I brought a few of the complimentary magazines from my room, grabbed a strawberry daquiri from the outside bar and I was all set!

The resort is currently under going an $85 million renovation, set to be complete in Spring 2013.  With that said, the property’s pool and beach club are closed – however there is access to other pools on the property.  And honestly, who needs a pool when you’ve got a fantastic beach?!  From the looks of things, this transformation is going to be outstanding!

Our stay was short, but my husband was able to scoop up a tee time for nine holes of golf on one of the resort’s three courses.  He said it was challenging and three of the holes were oceanfront!

The Omni Amelia Island Plantation amenities also include –

• A shopping village, complete with a market/deli, a Chico’s clothing store and more
• A nature center – complete with Segway tours
• 23 tennis courts
• A full-service spa and salon
• Kids camps
• Casual and upscale dining throughout the resort

This was the perfect escape for us.  Whether you’re looking for nature and activities or just a quiet, relaxing vacation  – this resort truly has something for everyone.  I’m hoping we have the chance to visit again once the renovations are completed…  and next time, I’m making myself an appointment at the spa!
