Video Blog: Help! I’m A Fashion Disaster! #WindowStyle

by Carrie with Children with 36 comments

If you’ve ever seen me in person, you’d know that I have zero sense of style.  I don’t know what looks good together, I don’t know what’s ‘in style’ , I just stick to what I think is comfortable and play it safe.

The folks at Windows are giving five BlogHer’12 attendees a $1,500 style makeover from a celebrity stylist – complete with a new Windows PC….  and I think I’m the perfect candidate.  There are no patterns, no prints, no excitement in my wardrobe – just solids.  Everywhere.  Check out this video blog –

About 95% of the clothes shown in my vlog were bought off the clearance rack. I love saving money, but some of these clothes were bought because of the price tag (and they were solids), not because they were a perfect fit.

I need someone to hold my hand and lead me from boring mom to fashionista mom!

Wouldn’t you love to see what I looked like wearing patterns and prints in my wardrobe?

** In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover Sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover! **

You are cracking me up! Hey, at least your flats have some prints, right? Oh, and I love your lime green shorts!!

Good luck!! I’d love to see you win.

    • Carrie with Children

Thank you so much! I do have some flats that have prints, but not many! 🙂 I’m so glad you love my green shorts too.

  • Kristina

You cracked me up! “Also… in all solids…” 😉

    • Carrie with Children

Ha! 🙂 The really funny part is that this entire story is true – that’s really my wardrobe!

  • Beeb Ashcroft

You’re so cute! I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your clothes, but it would be fun for you to try some new things. Want me to come over with my leopard print dresses and you can try out some patterns? LOL!

    • Carrie with Children

Aw, thank you! I think it would be fun to get some new things – patterns/prints especially! :)Leopard print dresses sounds WAY out of my comfort zone, but fun! 🙂 lol

  • Rachel

I definitely think you’d look great in some more bold patterns or types of clothing – you don’t have any skirts? Tank tops? You’re in Florida!! Time to branch out. 😉

    • Carrie with Children

You are so right – I don’t own any skirts! LOL 🙂 Definitely time to branch out!

  • Alicia

Hey, you gotta love the V-neck shirt:) At least you’re colorful:)

    • Carrie with Children

Very true – I’m definitely colorful! At least I’ve got that going for me! 🙂

  • RJ

Your flats are adorable!! Hey, your style isn’t so bad! You would look great with some patterned tanks/blouses as well as a few tank dresses in your closet I think. Hope you win!

    • Carrie with Children

Yay! So glad you also love my flats! I definitely think I need some tanks and dresses – that would be cute! Thanks for reading! 🙂

  • Jenn @therebelchick

I love your clothes, and you made me laugh in that vid!

  • Jenn @therebelchick

Also – accessorize! That’s the easiest way to dress up your solids. 🙂

    • Carrie with Children

Yes! I need to get better at accessorizing – definitely an area I could also use some help!

  • Liz @ A Nut in a Nutshell

I so love you. I hope you get the makeover, but I just gotta say that your personality more than makes up for the solid colors!

    • Carrie with Children

Aw, thank you Liz. You are much too kind! 🙂 If I win, maybe you can help me shop!

  • Kelly @ Texas Type A Mom

I’m a solid girl myself. I’ve ventured out some but not nearly as much as I probably should. I hope you win!

    • Carrie with Children

I love my solids, but never realized I had so many until recently! Thanks for watching and reading!

  • Emily @FamilyNLifeLV

Wow Carrie! That video is well, SOLID!! Good Luck!

  • Jackie

While I do have patterned things I tend to stick with solids too! So it’s not a bad thing!
Besides you can accessorize like no other when you wear solids! Scarves… jewelry… super cute shoes… bags!

    • Carrie with Children

I need to get better at accessorizing – I’m terrible at that too! 🙂

  • Beth

Good luck! I hope you get the shopping trip! What fun would it be to update your wardrobe!!

    • Carrie with Children

Thanks Beth! It would be so fun to go shopping for a new wardrobe – I definitely need someone to hold my hand!

  • Sara Phillips

I do have some patterns in my church clothes, but my everyday wardrobe looks VERY MUCH like yours!!!

    Good luck!

    • Carrie with Children

Well I’m glad I’m not alone! 🙂 Thanks for watching, Sara!

  • Michelle @Special Mom Space

Ok why when I read your first sentence I saw, “If you’ve ever seen me in prison….” Yeah, I’m special.

Patterns and prints? Not so much. I dabble in it a little in the summer but I am pretty much a solid clothes kind of gal. I guess i’m a fashion disaster too

    • Carrie with Children

LOL! You cracked me up, Michelle! I’m glad I’m not the only solid clothes girl 🙂 Thanks for watching

  • Nichol

Oh girl, you are adorable. But yeah you need some color and not anymore SOLIDS!!! Get some accessories, stripes, funky prints! Good luck with the contest!!!

    • Carrie with Children

Some accessories and stripes would be so fun! I just need someone to hold my hand! 🙂

  • Nicole Robinson @BookWormMama

You weren’t joking when you said you were surrounded by solids. I vote for animal prints—zebras, tigers and snakeskin; and you get my vote for the contest. Hope you win.

    • Carrie with Children

Ha! I totally wasn’t joking! 🙂 Animal prints would be fun and exciting! Thanks for your support.
