An Empty Box Means Big Fun!

Maggie is currently obsessed with the book A Box Can Be Many Things by Dana Meachen Rau.  She asks me to read to her at least twice a day – she loves the pictures, the story and most of all the imagination of the characters.

The book is about two children with big imaginations that turn an empty box into different things – a house, a car and more.

So, I’m sure you can imagine Maggie’s excitement when her Dad came home from work today with a big, empty box!  After hiding in her “cave” for a few minutes, she quickly asked Dad if he would cut out a window and a door to make her box a house.  And that’s when Molly got to coloring with the chalk to decorate the sides of their new home.

I had to practically beg the girls to come inside so I could start cooking dinner.  We were out there for hours – all they wanted to do was play in that empty box.  Their imagination was running wild and all I could do was laugh!

When I was a little kid, I had a huge refrigerator box that I played in for weeks.  It was huge and I made it into a lot of things too.  It’s fun turning nothing, into something… isn’t it?

I have a feeling that we’ll be spending a lot of time outside over the next few days and turning our box into a box of many things … just like the book!
