This past weekend, we gathered our friends and family and celebrated Miss Molly and all of those in our community with Down syndrome. The 2013 Northeast Florida Buddy Walk in Jacksonville Beach, Florida was a huge success and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect.
Our Buddy Walk is said to be the only one that actually takes place on the beach – how cool is that? And with it being November – please notice that we are all wearing shorts and t-shirts. Paradise!
This year’s Buddy Walk were 4,000 people in attendance – that’s HUGE! I couldn’t be more proud and excited to see such a phenomenal turnout. The monies raised from the day’s events stay right here in my community and benefit programs and activities throughout the year.
I think Molly knew that the day was for her – she was SO excited to be there and extremely stubborn all day. She never sat still the entire time we were there. She ended walking the entire mile of the walk – and not five minutes after we got in the car to go home, she fell asleep.
As fun as the day was, I’m mostly thankful for the friends and family that gathered with us for the day. There’s nothing more important than having a great support group and loved ones.
