On our recent journey with Carnival Cruise Lines on the Carnival Sunshine, we stopped in Freeport, The Bahamas for an afternoon of fun at one of their newest shore excursions – at the beach.
The Beach Getaway excursion offers cruisers some time away from the ship to relax on the beachfront. Roundtrip transportation is provided as part of the excursion – it’s about a 30-minute ride to the exclusive beach and we found it to be a day filled with fun.
Activities
As we arrived, we were welcomed by the property’s friendly staff and introduced to each of the amenities we could enjoy during our visit. Molly instantly made friends with the staff and before we knew it, all the kids had plenty of sand toys and were digging near the playground.
The beach had plenty of comfy chairs for lounging, there was a huge trampoline in the water and I saw a ton of families playing throughout the day – kids and parents! Surfboards are available to rent and just down the beach separate from the official excursion area – there were jet skis available for rent and even parasailing. If you didn’t want to leave your oceanfront seat, servers were available to take drink orders too – great service!
Things to Know
Bring Cash – There is a local market on-site with vendors – the girls picked out straw purses and even had their names stitched into each of them, they were a great souvenir. The beachfront restaurant features food and drinks available for purchase, I highly recommend the fish tacos.
Bring Your Own Towel – Carnival Cruise Lines provides each guest with a towel in their room. Be sure to bring it with you for this excursion, towels are not available at the beach.
Sunscreen – The property is well-shaded, but it’s the beach – be sure to bring your sunscreen. There’s nothing worse than getting burned while you’re at the beach.
Set of Dry Clothes – If you’d prefer not to travel back to the ship in wet clothes, there are showers and changing areas available. We brought dry clothes to change into and it made our trip back to the ship much more comfortable.
The excursion is close to five hours (that’s including the travel time from the ship) – giving families plenty of time for playing the beach, time to eat, shop at one of the many vendors on site and maybe squeeze in a little nap in a beach chair.
This was a great adventure for our family. It was my girls’ first experience outside of the United States – and such a fun way to experience all that The Bahamas has to offer.
Have you gone on a Shore Excursion?

How fun! It looks like there is so much to do for the whole family. We did the beach in Cozumel but I’d love to bring my kids to a Caribbean beach.
