Last week, as part of my role as , I attended the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.
The opening dinner was sponsored by Discover Palm Beaches and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. As most conference dinners go, it was somewhat fancy feeling – the symphony was playing and the Palm Beach Ballet was performing on stage. It set the scene for an official and proper night… or so I thought. But, wow did they quickly prove me wrong.
As the ballerinas began their second dance, the symphony began playing ‘Ice Ice Baby’ (or for the old-school crowd, David Bowie’s ‘Under Pressure’) – and the next thing we all knew… Vanilla Ice was walking on to the stage performing his classic hit song. And the place went crazy!
So, I won’t lie – I may have gotten a little too excited about his performance. Vanilla Ice was the first CD I ever bought – I was thirteen years old. So, as soon as the event was over – I had to get a quick picture with the man of the night.
He was incredibly nice and I loved that even though he performed at the beginning of the night, he sat in the front of the room and participated in the rest of the night.
You never know what is going to happen when you walk into a dinner banquet. However, on this night, I would have never guessed it would have involved Vanilla Ice – but it was awesome!
