DVD Review: Pee-wee’s Playhouse Season One & Two

When I was a kid, I loved watching Pee-wee’s Playhouse. Sure, it was silly – but it was also tons of fun. The creativity of the show was outstanding and I always loved playing along with the ‘secret word of the day’.  Connecting the dots and shouting ‘Mecka-lecka-hi, Mecka-hiney ho’ was a common phrase around our house.

I was so excited when I learned that my favorite show as a child was returning to stores! With Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series Blu-ray box set featuring bonus footage and the smaller set of Pee-wee’s Playhouse: Season One and Two on DVD – I couldn’t wait to introduce this fun world to my girls!

Pee-wee's Playhouse Connect the Dots

We have had so much fun this past week watching so many of the episodes together! Sometimes I find myself laughing harder than my girls. I also surprised myself when I realized that Laurence Fishburne was Cowboy Curtis and the late Phil Hartman was Captain Carl – the things you notice when you get older, I guess! Too cool.

Watching these seasons of Pee-wee’s Playhouse has brought back so many memories for me. The ‘Secret Word of the Day’ has brought back endless laughs – Maggie likes to see how loud she can yell each time someone says the word. I think we may have to make it a new family activity in our house.

Here’s a look at Conky sharing the secret word of the day –

Introduce Your Family to Pee-wee’s Playhouse

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: Season One and Two is available as a 4-DVD set – we loved seeing the very first episode and watching the story  of Pee-wee Herman and friends unfold on our television.

And for the true fans – there’s also the Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series features all 45 episodes including the Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special for a total over four hours with behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast.

Pee-wee's Playhouse Season One and Two DVD set
I’m excited that my girls are so into watching Season One and Two of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. Sure, it’s silly – but that’s what makes it so fun. We’ve spent a lot of time laughing together these past few weeks and as a mom, there’s nothing better!

Are you a fan of Pee-wee’s Playhouse?
