I Went to Walt Disney World Alone… And Loved It!

At the beginning of 2014, I wrote out my wish list for the year. Some things were practical (more sleep, eat better) and some that were just fun (see Garth Brooks in concert, more date nights, etc.) There was one that straddled the line of practical and fun – take an overnight trip to Walt Disney World. I wanted to recharge my internal batteries, but also have a mini-vacation in my favorite place.

Last week, I finally crossed that item off my wish list – I spent two days at Walt Disney World all by myself – and it was fantastic! After visiting the parks my entire life, I did things on this trip that I’d never even done before!

Disney Solo Trip Lunch View
I treated myself to lunch at Pinocchio’s Village Haus, where I sat upstairs on the balcony admiring a view of Cinderella’s Castle and some great people watching too. While the first floor of the restaurant was packed full of people, I had the place to myself upstairs!

I ventured into stores that I had never visited, when I’m with family I’m lucky if I make it in one store. So discovering the Christmas shop in Liberty Square and watching candy apples being made at the Big Top Souvenirs store was a real treat for me.

From sitting in my favorite spot to see the Festival of Fantasy parade and watching the Dapper Dans perform on Main Street U.S.A, I loved discovering the ‘little’ things at the Magic Kingdom.

For dinner, I really splurged and treated myself to dinner at the Flying Fish Cafe on the Boardwalk, my hands-down favorite restaurant in all of Walt Disney World. (If you go, ask to sit at the Chef’s Counter – you can watch the kitchen at work! Rhona, the bartender, was my server and she rocked!) From there, I made my way over to Epcot for dessert and to see the fireworks.

For the first time (probably ever), I toured Paris and declared it my new favorite place in Epcot. For dessert, I treated myself to a cronut, a cross between a donut and a croissant – life changing! Rolled in cinammon and sugar – it was the perfect dessert and I’m already wishing I had bought a few extras to take home.

And you know what’s really cool? This was only the first day! Day two includes the ‘Keys to the Kingdom’ tour at the Magic Kingdom – and maybe a few happy tears on my part, but that’s a story for another day…

Have you taken a solo trip to Walt Disney World?

** This was not a sponsored trip. I paid for everything on my own… with the help of my Christmas gift cards and Santa Claus. **
