Today has been filled with surprises…some funny, some heartwarming and some really exciting!
To kick things off, this morning while I was sitting on the couch feeding baby Molly, her sister decided it was a great time to cause trouble. Things were suspiciously quiet from the play area, so I felt the need to investigate. And there she was…. admiring herself in the mirror – completely naked. Not even a diaper! She took all her clothes off and was just hanging out like nothing was wrong. Just like the crayon incident, her response was “Oh, hi mama”. I couldn’t even do anything but laugh and get her dressed again.
It’s been so uplifting this past week to hear from family and friends after receiving Molly’s birth announcement. An old, family friend sent Molly flowers and a teddy bear today. So precious and thoughtful. It was also a nice surprise to hear from a long, lost friend today. I enjoyed catching up with her and reminiscing about the ‘good old days’. It’s a neat feeling that even though months and years can go by without communication and one simple phone call it is like you never left. We set up a date for Friday morning to get together. I can’t wait for her to see how much Maggie has grown and to meet our little Molly!

My final surprise today was *such* an exciting one! I’m proud and anxious all at the same time! I post each of my blog entries to www.SkirtJacksonville.com, it’s a division of our local newspaper. Every Monday, the lifestyle section of the paper is devoted to Skirt! My post last week about Down Syndrome Awareness Month and my Molly caught the attention of the editor and they’ve asked for permission to publish it for the October 25 edition! Wow – what an honor! As of today, my blog is only two weeks old and I’m really proud of what it has become so far. I can’t wait for readers to learn about Down Syndrome and how we’ve chosen to keep a positive outlook. I’m hoping that others will read my story and maybe it can help others in similar situations. So, for all you local folks – keep an eye out for it! I’ll post a link to the story when it’s published!
It’s only Monday and the week is already off to a great start! Try surprising someone this week. Something as simple as sending a nice card or a phone call to say hello can make someone’s day. It will make you feel good, but I guarantee it will make them feel even better! I’m proof!
