I’m not a coffee drinker. I love the smell of coffee, but I’m not crazy about the taste. With that said, I’ve always wondered why/how people could just hang out at Starbucks all afternoon… and now I know.
I’ve got the afternoon off from “mommy duty” and decided to play the part of a “cool kid” this afternoon and stop by Starbucks. I’m not even a little ashamed to tell you that I’ve been here for over an hour and I’m nowhere ready to leave yet. I’ve been sipping on a Toffee Mocha Frappuccino, I’ve had a really good chocolate chunk cookie and have even seen a few friends. I guess I look friendly because two different people have asked me for directions. I could do without the jazz music, but hey – at least it’s not Christmas music, yet. And you wanna know the best part? No one here is crying, no one needs me to fix them a snack and there aren’t dogs here needing attention. Heck, I don’t even have to do the dishes here – yay! It’s just me and my computer…and some really good people watching. I’m amazed at how many people have come in the store and didn’t have to tell the barista their order – the folks behind the counter already knew! Ah, the life of being a “regular”.
This is the perfect mommy getaway spot. It’s only a few miles from home, but I feel like I’m hundreds of miles away. I think I’m going to make it my new goal to become a “regular” here. I deserve time off and I certainly don’t do it enough. Let’s see how many trips it takes before the barista knows my order!
Where’s your favorite mommy getaway spot close to home? As a mom, I challenge you to take a time-out for yourself each week. You deserve it! I’m refreshed and ready to get home to dirty dishes.. kinda.

My favorite getaway spot is Panera Bread in Jax Beach. Or the beach. But when I take my doggie there I still feel like I'm on mommy duty picking up poop and all.

Oh Panera – that's another good spot! I love their bagels! Maybe on my next getaway, I'll come join you!

We have a tea house near us that I love to go to. I totally agree! It's blissful to sit in a coffee shop, blog in peace, and not have "uppie, uppie, uppie" or "no, ME" in my ear. Ahhh. That sounds so nice about now.

Mmm I could definitely use a Mommy time-out! Think Ill take one for myself tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration!

Sippy Cup Mom
Sounds wonderful! I'm really hoping to get to Bread Co for a little bit tomorrow by myself with a book or my laptop for some mommy time!

You know, I went to the mall the other day sans kids. It was nice and rare. But my favorite thing to do isn't a mommy-getaway. I have a "Coffee-Date" with my two year old 2 – 3 times a month. We go to Dunkin Donuts, I get my coffee and he gets his jelly donut after we drop his brother off at school. We have another year and a half of this ritual and I love it. It IS relaxing and fun.

confession… I don't have a mommy time spot. I don't get away. I should, but…

Um, what the heck are you talking about? I know nothing of this me time. 🙂 If I get anytime alone, it's usually here at home and the baby is sleeping and my hubs has the big girl outside. And normally it's spent working. If I leave the house alone, which is rare, it's to go get milk. 🙂
Maybe one day I'll have time to myself… probably when they go to college or something. 🙂
