A little of this….
And a little of this!
Some of our BEST family memories come from a spontaneous trip we booked in 2007. I found a last minute cruise deal from Carnival for $299 per adult and $129 per child. That was a 4-night cruise from San Diego, CA to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. For a total of $856, we had a room, all the food we could manage to eat & TONS of entertainment. (Keep in mind alcohol is NOT included).
Now, I didn’t want to fly to San Diego & just hop right on the boat, I wanted to hang out there for a bit! I found the area in San Diego we needed to be, had to be within walking distance to the port where we would be boarding the cruise ship. It also had to have airport transportation. I found a great hotel that met our needs and booked it. We booked 2 nights before our cruise and 1 night after the cruise.
The time to travel arrived and we hit the deck running. We made it to San Diego and were ready to soak up the sun. We walked along the waterfront, we found fabulous sushi, we hopped a bus to Mission Beach, we spend a few hours poolside, and tried out every Starbucks within walking distance. Although San Diego has TONS to offer, we didn’t want to fill our 2 free days with anything too nuts or time consuming.
When cruise day arrived we packed up and made our way down to the port. Checking into the cruise was a breeze. All we needed where our original birth certificates. (Although my husband and I have our passports, we didn’t need them). We made it on to the ship and just walked around to check out the giant boat before heading to our room. This was first Carnival cruise for hubs & I and our first cruise with the kids. When we found our room, we were pleasantly surprised to see the giant king size bed for us and 2 drop down bunk beds for the kids. IT WAS PERFECT!!
There was a BOATLOAD of things to do on the cruise. We even tried the kids daycare called Camp Carnival and the kids absolutely LOVED it! We had incredible food, very nice “date” nights & fun entertainment. We were forced to relax, take naps and play in the sun. We made it to Cabo San Lucas, but it was almost too hot to enjoy. We only spent a couple hours on shore.
The cruise was family friendly, affordable and absolutely FABULOUS!
After the cruise, we spent one more night in San Diego, and it was a glorious night of rest. We actually needed to recover from all the fun. And since I couldn’t just pick a couple pictures from this vacation to share, I have literally scanned our very unprofessional BUT COMPLETE scrapbook album to share with you! In my humble opinion, pictures really do speak a thousand words!
Clickity click here if you want to see ALL of the album pages…that’s right….. ALL of them!

It does sound like a beautiful place! I’d love to visit there one day too!
Cruising is so fun, but we’ll probably have to wait until our girls get a little older before we try it with them! 🙂
